Threnody is an experimental musical masterpiece both because it pushes the boundaries of musical expression, and employs historic innovations in musical orthography. This accounts for the shrill, all treble nature of the piece. As stated, there are some bits of staff in the piece, but penderec,i when there is some definite pitch specified.
